July Update

Hi Legacy Students, Parents and Leaders...I honestly cannot believe it is JULY! Where has the year gone? It seems like everyone is talking about taking a vacation before school starts again and I can't help but wish I had some time this summer to go camping (between camp and the pregnancy, I don't have much faith it's going to happen this summer). Although the worst part of camping is putting everything away once you get home, one of my favorite parts of camping is getting all the gear together beforehand: marshmallows, camping chairs, lanterns, coffee thermos, flashlights/glow sticks, citronella candles, etc. There are so many things you need while camping to make your trip successful, especially the more people you bring, and everything serves a purpose.

What are the things you need to make your endeavor with the Lord successful? Knowledge of the Word of God? Good Christian friends? Spiritual mentors to keep you accountable? Think through your relationship with the Lord: what could you add to draw you closer to Him? It might not be something you need to add, it could quite possibly be something you need to remove. We should constantly be evaluating our pursuit of Jesus, making sure we are doing everything we can to draw near to Him.
Ephesians 1:17-18, James 4:8, Philippians 3:7-14

  • Students going that particular week must arrive Sunday morning at our Commissioning Service by 9am.
  • They must wearing their blue polo and jeans/capris/shorts to the knee.
  • Student may want to have another outfit available to change into after service (they will be wearing their polo the following day and might want to keep it clean).
  • Each student must have EVERYTHING packed and labeled ("The Crew Girls/Guys") and brought to the church at this time. Your best bet is to put it in a garbage bag, labeled with duct tape. (Please remember your camp shirts- Blue Polo, Blue T-Shirt, Green T-Shirt, Red T-Shirt, Yellow T-Shirt and your camp devotional!)
  • No student is allowed to leave the church for any reason once the Commissioning Service begins. You will be officially on your mission trip when you arrive.
  • Lunch will be provided in the Legacy room immediately following service for each of our students going that week and then we will head up directly to camp in our van. Please say good-bye to your families before heading to Legacy, because once you are in there we will definitely be in camp mode.
  • Students can be picked up Friday at New Life at 5:30/6pm following our Debrief Dinner in the Legacy room.

Re-Cap of June:
Summer RAGE- TIME WARP

Every generation of teenagers hears phrases like "This is the hardest time to be a teenager", "I wouldn't want to be a teenager now-a-days" or "You couldn't pay me enough to become a teenager again!" What causes people to say that? More importantly, what was it like to be a teenager in the 1950's? The 1970's? The 1990's? This year for Summer RAGE we warped back in time to hear from previous generations on what it was like to be a teenager back when they were growing up.

Wednesday, June 2nd- 1950's

Speaker: Grandma Pat Girgenti
We learned quite a few things about Grandma Pat: she is an amazing singer, she wasn't allowed to chew gum at school and God has brought her through some incredible hardships to testify of His faithfulness.
Provoking thought of the night:
God has a plan, but the devil has a plot.

Wednesday, June 9th- 1960's

Speaker: Pastor Terry Carlson

Did you know that Pastor Terry used to make his girlfriend, who is now his wife, Pastor Pat, take off her shoes before entering his 1968 Z-28 Camaro so that the rugs wouldn't get dirty?
Provoking thought of the night: Although God has always been, he isn't "old." He is the same yesterday, today and forever, and knows exactly what to do in situations you find yourself in today!

Wednesday, June 16th- 1970's

Speaker: Mr. Mike Piccolo
Just imagine Mr. Piccolo dying his hair with Miss Clairol when he was a teenager.
Provoking thought of the night: It's important to be a good witness for Christ with your life, because you never know the impact you have on those around you.

Wednesday, June 23rd- 1980's

Speakers: Pastors Joel and Aimee Johnston

Who knew perms were popular for men and women?
Provoking thought of the night: Hebrews 12:1-3 "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."

Wednesday, June 30th- 1990s

Speaker: Pastor Michael Molloy
MIME: The art of portraying characters and acting out situations or a narrative by gesturesand body movement without the use of words; pantomime.
Provoking thought of the night:
Take advantage of the spiritual leaders God has placed in your life. You can learn a lot by asking them to speak into your life.

*** DON'T FORGET THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE MAKING A TIME CAPSULE FOR OUR LAST NIGHT OF SUMMER RAGE, ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 7TH. Please bring something to place in the bin that would symbolize your decade and time as a teenager. We will also be opening up the Legacy Coffeebar and having some special treats. Don't miss it! ***

Parting Thoughts:
Here are some resources I would like to pass along for this month. Enjoy!

Video: Please check out the "Do It For The Story" Promotional Trailer. I am so proud of my super-talented friend, Joel Clark. We traveled together on a team to Uganda, Africa in high school and since then he has been traveling the globe, spreading the love of Jesus (and writing a book!)

Book:
When I was growing up, one of my favorite series to read was the MEN AND WOMEN OF FAITH series. They were all very easy reading and I read them over and over and it really built my faith and gave me a love for missions.
Here are some of my absolute favorites: Hudson Taylor, George Muller, Eric Liddell, Gladys Aylward, Amy Carmichael, Brother Andrew, Jonathan Edwards

Website: Kids In Mind

Ever wonder what is in a movie before you go and see it? This is a website I love to use to find out if a particular movie has content in it that I would rather not see. Check it out before you spend $9 on a movie you will find yourself walking out of. (GREAT site for parents!!)

Music:
Passion Awakening by Passion
Worship songs from Passion 2010 in Atlanta. Some of my favorites are "Healing is in Your Hands" by Christy Nockels and "Chosen Generation" by Chris Tomlin.

Downloads: Free Josh McDowell Book Downloads
Here is a great link for some of Josh McDowell's books that are now out of print and some of his debate transcriptions. Check out "Out of the Moral Maze" and "Truth Matters"
