September Devotions

Monthly Scripture Memorization:

Isaiah 40:29-31
29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Our devotions will now be on the side bar of the blog page...

I love Matthew 5! The Sermon on the Mount is one of my favorite things to read in the New Testament. The hardest part is at the end of chapter 5- "love your enemies." We hear it all the times in sermon, but the daily practice of that verse is extremely hard to do. I need to pray that God gives me the grace and strength it takes to love not only those who are good to me, but those who treat me wrong also.

WOW! So many things jumped out at me in Matthew 5...Yesterday I was put to the test & had to deal with anger big time...It is so hard when things happen for no apparent reason other than to try and take you down. It's not fair and so easy to be angry & want revenge. But when I think of Jesus I am reminded of His pain, suffering & how many times He had to turn the other cheek...He chose to love. I will leave ALL things in His capable hands and pray for those who hurt me and know that God is in control of my life-whom shall I fear?

Can I add a single hour to my life by worrying?? NO! My Father knows my needs and will provide...Lord help me to leave all my cares & worries of this world in Your hands-You know what is best for me-I desire to do your will.

Verse 1 of Matt. 5 is very convicting... it says- "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven." We need to please God and do what He asks no matter who sees or doesn't. I want to be the person that just walks with the Lord and doesn't care who is watching!

Today I am just asking the Lord what kind of "plank" I may have in my own eye. It's so much easier to see what everyone else is doing wrong... but to look at my own life means that I have to change something, and that's hard. But if my desire is to truly become closer to the Lord, then I won't be afraid of what He may ask me to remove.

i LOVE the book of proverbs! it's so good and applies to my life, every single day. i really desire wisdom in my life, not just to be smart, but Godly wisdom, to make the decisions i need to make for me and my family.

"come to me and rest"...if we are tired from all the cares we carry we can simply lay them down at the feet of Jesus. i find such peace in that-
Lord you are so awesome, as i lay down all my cares i take comfort in knowing Your hand is upon me...Praise God!!

Jesus was SO wise, he knew when to speak and when to keep his mouth shut. I love that there wasn't anyone or anything that could keep him from doing his Father's will. If I want to be more like Christ, I have to keep my eyes on God's will too.

It says in Proverbs 3:3, "He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction." I have to watch what comes out of my mouth- it could bring life or death, not just for those involved, but for myself!

matthew 14 is jammed packed with incredible feats of Jesus! Walking on water, feeding the 5,000- was there anything he couldn't do? he couldn't force peter to have faith and walk on the water. that was peter's decision. God can do anything, but He chooses to allow us to choose... that's incredible!

i love proverbs 17:1: "Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife." it's such a true statement. i want to represent peace and not strife!

matthew 17:20-21 Jesus replied: "It is becuase you do not have enough faith" If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could tell this mountain to move & it would"...Lord help me to have the kind of faith you spoke about - not doubting but having the faith that moves mountains!

Matthew 18:3-4
And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

"It is to a man's honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel." Proverbs 20:3
It doesn't matter if you are right, wrong or upset, it's in our best interest to avoid strife... that means friends, parents, siblings, youth group, etc. Only a FOOL wants to fight and I don't want to be a fool!

"Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant, you did it for me." Every time I read this I think of all the simple ways I can bless people...sometimes it can be a kind word, a prayer or just being a friend. So many have blessed me because of their faithfulness to the Lord my prayer is that God uses me to minister to His people.

In Joshua 13 at the very end, the author makes the comment that their inheritance was the Lord. There is no other inheritance I would rather have.

Proverbs 15:4-The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.
The tongue is such a powerful thing and I need to be aware of what comes out of my mouth before I start to speak. I want to bring healing, not crush people's spirit!

i was reading a devotional that Pastor Lori let me borrow and i was reading that i need to pray continually and i started praying about a situation and i said to God that he said in his word that we need to ask in his name and we will recieve. So when reading the book in the Bible the devotional told me about 3 minuets later i saw the same verse in John 14. God is real and that was not Coincidence.
